The principle of a powder coating line involves the painting of metal pieces through the electrostatic application of a thermosetting powder, curing through a baking process between 160 and 250 °C.
This type of process is often coupled with a chemical surface treatment (often in a tunnel) or manual/automatic shot blasting. Manual application is often easy to learn, and the use of mechanized systems allows for automatic application.
However, it is more complex and often more expensive to cure powders on very thick parts (>10 mm). The use of infrared ovens is recommended in such cases.
Also, note that the appearance of powdered parts is often superior to that of liquid paint applications.
Simple lines are equipped with manual conveyors or mechanized MONORAIL conveyors, while more complex ones are equipped with essential BIRAIL conveyors in case of parallel cabin arrangements, long part lengths (up to 18 m), or integration with assembly lines.
In this type of line, the layout of equipment is crucial, and the involvement of the conveyor manufacturer must be complete from the beginning of the project to reduce the space used and the length of conveyor used.
